Over the last three years, the St. Martin Book Fair has been offering to the St. Martin people and our visitors three exciting days of Caribbean books, literature and cultural performances, and exhibition of educational and media tools, highlighted with:

q       Multilingual/multi-subject workshops (English, Kreyol, Dutch, Spanish, Papiamentu, French).

q       Book and multimedia exhibitions; Book launches and signings of newly published books.

q       Well-known authors and scholars from around the world are participating in the 2006 fair, e.g. Kamau Brathwaite, Nicole Cage-Florentiny, Drisana Deborah Jack, Danilo Figueredo, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Dr. Tabish Khair.

4th annual St. Martin Book Fair for June 1 - 3, 2006

 

Marigot/Great Bay (April 2, 2006)—The 4th Annual St. Martin Book Fair is set for June 1 - 3, 2006, at the University of St. Martin (USM), the Philipsburg Community and Cultural Center, and school in Marigot, according to the Book Fair Committee (BFC).

The 2006 book fair theme is, “Migration: Movement of the People,” said Shujah Reiph, coordinator of the book fair and president of Conscious Lyrics Foundation. Reiph chairs the 12-member BFC, which has been meeting weekly at USM since late February.

This year, a roster of authors from the Caribbean, including St. Martin, and from the USA , Europe, and India will star at book signings, readings, workshops, and at the debut of The President’s Forum, a thematic discussion linked to literature by prominent scholars and authors..

Authors will visit schools in Marigot and other parts of the island during the three-day event. The fair is coordinated by Conscious Lyrics Foundation and House of Nehesi Publishers in collaboration with the University of St. Martin.

The workshops by various experts, three general sessions, the cultural evening, and the main book launch will fill out the book fair program.

The book fair’s opening ceremony, which alternates yearly between both capitals of St. Martin, will take place at the Cultural Center on Thursday, June 1, 2006 -- featuring  book signings, exhibitions, and sale of books.

The fair’s main exhibitions, sale of books, and workshops will move to the USM campus on Friday, June 2 and Saturday, June 3. The main book launch and closing ceremony will take place on the evening of June 3.
